Google India has a launched a very unique initiative to educate the offline population in India about the benefits of Internet.

The project is called The Internet Bus. The aim of this project is an attempt educate people about what the Internet is, and how it may be beneficial to their lives, by taking the Internet experience to them through a customised Internet-enabled bus, which will travel to several towns and cities across India.

Following the footsteps of Google’s personalized homepage, Gmail added themes. Once the new option is enabled in your account (as usually, Gmail’s new features are slowly rolled out), you’ll find a tab named “Themes” in the settings page and you’ll be able to choose from 30 themes. “We wanted to go beyond simple color customization, so out of the 30 odd themes we’re launching today, there’s a shiny theme with chrome styling, another one that turns your inbox into a retro notepad, nature themes that change scenery over time, weather driven themes that can rain on your mailbox, and fun characters to keep you in good company,” mentions Gmail’s blog.

There’s even an old school ascii theme (Terminal) which was the result of a bet between two engineers — it’s not exactly practical, but it’s great for testing out your geek cred. We’ve also done a minor facelift to Gmail’s default look to make it crisper and cleaner.

To customize your inbox, go to the Themes tab under Settings.

Unlike other webmail services, Gmail has never provided too many customization options and users had to rely on themes created for third-party extensions like Stylish, which usually slowed down Gmail and weren’t resilient to code changes.

http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2008/11/spice-up-your-inbox-with-colors-and.html

Yesterday, google launched Google Chrome, a new approach to the web browser that comes with a few features that can give you a better browsing experience:

I like the following features of Google chrome.
==================================
1.) Google Chrome Tabbing – Crash control: Every tab you use is run independently in Google Chrome, so if one tab crashes, it won’t take the tab with your inbox down with it.
2.) Incognito Window – Pages you view in this window won’t appear in your browser history or search history, and they won’t leave other traces, like cookies, on your computer after you close the incognito window. Any files you download or bookmarks you create will be preserved, however. Browsing in incognito mode only keeps Google Chrome from storing information about the websites you’ve visited. The websites you visit may still have records of your visit.
3.) More real-estate – more pixel space for my browsing
4.) Google Chrome features a new JavaScript engine, V8, that has been designed for performance from the ground up, so web applications like Gmail that use the browser to its fullest run lightning fast.

I feel the following things are missing in google chrome
=========================================
1.) A well organized bookmarks manager
2.) Stop Icon
3.) A drop down menu to select the search engine and search
4.) No password protection for the passwords saved
5.) Plugin support
6.) RSS Support
7.) Autofill feature
8.) Ad block and related Flash block
9.) navigator.vendor reads “Apple” instead of “Google”
10) Preferences menu is missing

Search operators work pretty much the same way within Gmail as they do for Google. In the latest post in the official G-Mail blog, they have mentioned various techniques for finding an e-mail from a bulk amount of e-mail. It is not that much difficult to remember the search opertaors.

     If you are facing any difficulties then you can use the “Show search options” link to the right of the search bar at the top of your inbox. Clicking that provides you with text fields you can fill in to get the precision of advanced search. But after a while you’ll probably find that using operators is a lot faster.

    Google is listed the list of operators for advanced search.

Archiving just means moving mail out of your inbox and storing it for safekeeping.

In Detail….

Archiving moves messages out of your inbox and into All Mail, letting you tidy up your inbox without deleting anything. Messages you archive can be found in All Mail, in any labels you’ve applied, and by searching Gmail. When someone responds to a message you’ve archived, the conversation containing that message will reappear in your inbox.

That’s It..

The archive feature in Gmail hides an email so that it no longer clutters up the inbox, a feature that is surprisingly not available on many other email clients. Read the official GMail blog for knowing the 9 reasons…..
